In 1998 our first paper mill went into operation on the edge of Leicester, our second was completed in 2001.

Kamns produces over 75,000 tonnes a year of quality tissue paper. The mills are amongst the most advanced in the world, setting new standards in noise reduction, water recycling and using raw materials from environmentally sound sources. Having our own mills gives us greater control over the production process and allows us to offer our customers a better service and unbeatable value for money. We were delighted in 2001 when we won the coveted Energy and Environment Award at PAPEX for extremely low noise levels and emissions, with a unanimous judges' vote.

In 2001 our second paper mill was completed and is one of the first to offer TissueFlex™ technology. TissueFlex™ is a revolutionary new method of producing tissue paper from Andritz. A shoe press replaces the conventional suction press roll and works against the Yankee cylinder. This alters the pressure profile and allows us to dramatically improve the bulk and softness of the end product, and at the same time we can reduce or hold costs due to the energy savings. The new mill has approximately twice the capacity of the first with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes a year and machine speeds of up to 1,800 metres per minute, the fastest in the UK.

The new mill will produce parent reels up to 5.4m wide to work in conjunction with our new XXL Rewinder in the converting facility. This will make the whole process quicker and more cost efficient. We can now process from pulp to finished product in around four hours.
