Acquired by the LPC Group in 2007, the paper mill in Duffel, Belgium provides LPC with a broader product portfolio and is now capable of supplying retail partners throughout Europe with Through-Air-Dried (TAD) technology based household paper products. The operation consists of a TAD paper machine and a large converting hall for producing finished consumer products.
Paper Machine 6
A through-air-dried (TAD) 3.4 metre machine, with a production capacity of 35,000 tonnes per annum. This machine is capable of manufacturing luxury soft toilet tissue and premium kitchen towel.
Advantages of Through-Air-Dried Technology (TAD)
The PM1 machine based at the Duffel paper mill was first started up in 1988. Toilet tissue and kitchen towels produced in this mill set new standards in terms of softness, bulk and absorbency.
Using TAD technology warm air is blown through the paper during production creating the soft tissue fibres to stand on end creating a soft to the touch feel.
Household paper products manufactured using TAD technology are capable of having a softer, thicker and more absorbent sheet using less fibres than older traditional conventional paper machines.
Converting capabilities
The Duffel converting hall which sited adjacent to the TAD paper machine has 4 toilet tissue converting lines, 2 kitchen towel lines capable of printing 2 to 4 colours and a facial tissue / dry wipe line capable of manufacturing a variety of skillet sizes. The converting hall has a capacity of over 50,000 tonnes and is fully automated from parent reels to palletisation of finished product.
